Surviving the times
It has been a tough couple of years. Most of the gains from the last 25 years have been used up. We are going to get out of this mess but we have to be smart about getting out. There are some who believe that bigger government is the answer. On this I strongly disagree!!! Our country is the greatest nation on this earth because of individuals who have worked hard and taken risks and accepted personal responsibility. The government did not do this, it was us the people. And it is us the people who need to VOTE and throw the bums out who promote big government! It is clearly evident that most of congress is not listening or believe that they are smarter than we are. Government does not produce anything except more laws and regulation that frequently keep us from making a living which generates profits that generates money to pay taxes and fund government. Government get out of our way!

Rogue Valley fires
This week we had a favorable outcome with the fires we had in part because we still have a fire tanker base, thanks to Jack Walker our County Commissioner who fought to keep it here. Another factor that helped save homes especially in Ashland was the fact that home owners had prepared fire fuel breaks around their homes before the fire. A special thanks is in order for Fire District No. 5, who worked with the home owners to get this done. The only home that was lost did not have a fuel break done.

fed up
Government appears to be happy to take care of all of our liabilities and risks. I can not state how strongly I disagree with this position. As a businessman this is what it takes to run a business. You take risks and take on liabilities everyday and that is what make you focus on your job and to do your job correctly. If you do not then you are out of business. It is my profound belief that this is what has made our country as great as it is today. By government removing this primary part of risk and liability from our lives it removes the incentive to achieve success that makes us strong. It leaves me with no desire to expand and grow back my business with government in charge of everything and taking everything from me including my responsibility. Lets take back our responsibility and stand up as say no to government so we can get back to being a productive society. The direction government is going only leads us to a bankruptcy, but they will be responsible!!! NOT A GOOD OUTCOME.

Saturday morning thoughts
This morning before coming to the office Susan and I went to a breakfast sponsored by Central Point Rotary Club and Stan Foley. It was to raise funds for a kids Christmas shopping trip and provided kids with a fishing day on the Highbanks Ponds. I saw a lot of old friends and clients and had an enjoyable time. It makes me proud that there are still many Americans who have the gumption to do the right thing to help people who are in need. We are all faced with a struggling economy but we all were able to dig into what little we have to give to others. This is what the United States of America is all about!!!

What is Government doing for us?
I have been asking myself this a lot. One thing I do know is that I have no confidence that government will solve our problems. When I look at all government I do not see much that has any efficiency other than at some individuals who are doing the best they can at the job tasks assigned to them. However when you put politics into play then get into a standoff where political interest out weigh the good of the whole of our country. The economic down turn we are facing is something that was long over do because the nature of our economic system it has ups and downs and we had a long up swing. Up swings tend to create waste so the down turns tend to clean out our system and keep it health. I do feel that the down turn has been amplified by government interference with one example being the mark to market accounting requirement. I may be over simplifying this but any time you value any system to its lowest common denominator can not be health. The present administration has not stopped playing politics and has a notion the big government is better. I challenge you to show me any government program that is successful and run with any efficiency. I can understand stimulus spending on things that improve our infrastructure and provide a benefit to the citizens as a whole. That would be wise use of tax payers dollars. The whole idea that we pass a stimulus bill without debate, without reading it to get the pork out of it is totally ludicrous. I suppose that all we can do as individuals is try to hang on until we recover dispute what government has done. That is all I am doing for better or worse. We need to elect some common sense at the next election cycle and try to rein in out of control spending. What takes the cake is that now because I have some fiscal responsibility I am a right wing extremist and I thought I was just a business man. Go figure!!

What is Farber Surveying
Farber Surveying is a small business that provides landuse consulting associated with land development. This separates us from many land surveying firms in that we take an application from start to finish with all of the approving agencies. This work can be anything from a simple property line adjustment to 100 acre plus subdivisions. In the production of this work we deal with all levels of government staff on local, state and federal levels. Our 22 years of being in business with 39 years of work experience and training provides an ability to deal with most scenarios that come up. That being said we still have surprises with changing laws, regulations in our ever changing world. We rely on technology to produce many fold more than we could 22 years ago with current computers and field equipment (see our website).
